Hello everybody ! Today I am going to talk about how to chose your rods for a fishing trip in Gabon. Sometimes this choice can be seen as a really hard to make but no worries, I am writing this post to help you to make the good choice.

During the last 6 years, I tried to catch the biggest fish around Gabon but I also tried to find the best equipment at the better price. Sometimes equipment for exotic fishing or fishing is really expensive but by searching a little bit and testing different rods we quickly realise that we don't have to spend a lot of money to be able to catch the biggest fish. Moreover, if you think you need to have big and strong rods for fishing in Gabon, you are wrong.

Indeed, If you want to fish in Gabon, having a strong rods is not a bad but you also need to take light rods for different types of fishing.

Here are my advices to chose your rods :

- Take three types of spinning rods : one in 30 lbs for light fishing, one in 60 lbs for fishing during the day and one in 80 lbs for fishing during the sunrise, the sunset, and the night

- For the 30 lbs length the best is to chose a rod between 2.40m - 2.70m

- For the 60 lbs and 80 lbs length the best is to chose rod between 2.40m - 3.20m to throw far away and behind waves for catching bigger fish.

- Favor rods with a compact design to transport them more easily.

It is really important to chose these three types of spinning rods because when the big fish are not active the smaller ones are and if you go fishing into a river the light one will be the best. Moreover, during the day the biggest fish are not active and using a 60 lbs rod will allows you not to get physically tired quickly if you want to fish the .

Now let's talk about the main subject of this post, which rods to choose and at what price?

Generally, fishing is a sport that is quite expensive, but it is quite possible to find equipment of very good quality at a medium cost. Of course you can choose to fish with Tenryu rods at $1000 but you can also fish with cheaper rods that will allow you to bring back just as many fish. To guide you in your choices, here are some ideas. These are all rods that I have tried and that I have appreciated a lot.

- For the 30 lbs rod, favor a daiwa powermesh travel. For me this rod is the best for light fishing in Gabon. It is really flexible and reactive to each types of fish and if you catch a big one you have every chance of pull up it. In addition, you can go with it and fish in river and try to catch small carranx, red snapper or tarpoon.

- For the 60 lbs rod, favor an Hearty Rise Monster game HYMG10. I can't tell you anything except that it is exceptional. This rod is a marvel. Its rigidity and its relatively large size will allow you to use it in all conditions. It is also perfect from the edge for casting far away but also for fishing from a boat. You will bring back trophies with this rod. The first tarpon I managed to hit was with this rod. Before I found this marvel I fished with a Daiwa Saltist exo Travel but at the moment the new ones are not as good because they are shorter and less comfortable to hold. On the other hand the daiwa saltiga air portable is a very good rod but at a relatively high price.

- Finally for the 80 lbs rod, I recommend the same model from hearty rise : Hearty Rise Monster game HYMG11. I have both models and I am not disappointed at all. These rods are incredible. They are really usable in all conditions and are also very pleasant to handle.

To sum up, the choice of your rods for your trip to Gabon can seem complicated. Remember that you need three rods and I insist on that. You will have fun with a light rod when the big fish are not active and when you fish during the day the 60 lbs will allow you not to get physically tired so that you are ready for your evening fishing. Favour long rods so that you can cast far enough and normally you should be able to catch the trophy fish you are hoping for.
