Hello everybody ! Today we are looking at specific lures for a fishing trip in Gabon.

Once you have made your choice of rods and reels for your fishing trip to Gabon, you still have to choose one of the most important things for fishing: the lures. Previously I wrote two articles on fishing rods and reels for a trip to Gabon, if you haven't read them, click on the links!

The choice of lures is as important as the rest of the equipment. Although all lures work in general, I will give you the ones that are essential and less essential for your trip. Indeed, all lures will allow you to catch fish, but some are essential and work much more than others. Through this article, you will have information in order to prepare your fishing box in the best way.

Among all the lures that exist, there are mainly three types of lures that you need. The first is called a popper, which is a surface lure. Their design will allow you to create a small spray of water on the surface imitating a fish being chased by a predator. The noise made by the lure makes a little "pop pop" hence the name popper. The second one is called stick bait and is a lure that swims between two waters. It will perfectly imitate a weakened or dying prey. The last one is one of the most important, it is the plug. This lure is very similar to the popper and is a bottom lure. Thanks to its reversed bevel and its weight, when it is gently brought back, it will scrape the bottom by emitting small vibrations which will not leave insensitive the red carps, captain and tarpons.

When fishing on rocky bottoms, stick baits and poppers are the lures to use. The plugs are made for the sandy bottoms of the mouths of lagoons for example. These three types of lures are essential and will allow you to catch all types of fish. From the smallest to the biggest. Of course, you can use any type of lure, this is just my opinion. The big soft lures are also very good to fish for big red carp, barracuda or captain but not very economical.

Now that you know the types of lures to take along, I'm going to introduce you to a few essential models, the ones I use the most and which for me are unbeatable.

For poppers, here are my choices :

  • I am a fan of the SAG brand. In Gabon all their lures have proven themselves. The popper called "Le citron" or "the titan" are magical lures. Really effective for catching big carp or red carp when there is a little depth. (click on the link to see it)

  • At Sakura, the Sakura Pulsion will be a lethal weapon and you will never be disappointed. Depending on the rod you use, there are different sizes and weights. The 135 F will work in all conditions. (click on the link to see it)

  • The sakura dumbell pop 150 F is also a safe bet. Easy to cast, it will be perfect for long distance casting. (click on the link to see it)

  • From the Halco family, The halco roosta is also one of my favourites. The 105 and 80 versions are perfect for light fishing. (click on the link to see it)

For stick baits, here are my choices :

  • Because I am a fan of SAG lures, two of the 3 stick bait I use are from SAG. Really good lures. There is the Kpi 10 and the magnet. I wouldn't know what to tell you except that they are magic. On my last few fishing trips, I caught my biggest fish with them. Once again, all lures from SAG are great values. (click on the link to see it)

  • Another one from the team Sakura called "mister joe" is also a lethal weapon. You can chose different size. For me the best is for light fishing (105 S) but you can take the biggest one (150 S). It works very well too.

The last one is one of my favorite, here are my choices for the plugs :

  • Once again I'll tell you about my favourite brand of lures, SAG! Specifically the plug "l'éclair". This lure is amazing! With this plug, you can't come back empty handed, it's impossible. It is just exceptional. All fish love this lure. (click on the link to see it)

  • Now let's move on to the Orion team. The orion plugs are among the best for Gabonese fishing. Personally I am particularly fond of the black glitter plugs. This is the colour that works best in my opinion. You can find the lure on this website and order it.

  • Finally, one of the leading lures in Gabon is the BRITT 145 from tackel house. Once again it is a safe value and will allow you to hit many fish. However, the price of the Britt is quite high and big fish such as red snapper can easily pierce it and make the lure unusable. I always keep one or two with me but I don't fish with them specifically. I prefer the SAG :)

I mainly buy my equipment from the DPSG shop. Their shop sells everything you need for exotic fishing. The staff is great and they have most of the lures and tackle I use. Regarding SAG lures the DPSG shop sells them or you can buy them directly from the SAG website.

I would like to mention once again the lure manufacturer SAG who makes quality lures that work great. Don't hesitate to order lures there!

To sum up this post, the lures I recommend the most are poppers, stick baits and plugs. The plugs should be used mainly at night as well as the stick baits even if they work just as well during the day.

The lures from SAG are really a good value and good quality. They are all made of wood, so there is no risk of them becoming unusable if a big fish bites into them.

As for the lion, halco and sakura lures, they are also good value. It's up to you to make your choice ;)
