Libreville, the capital city of Gabon where you will arrive by plane, is a city close to the mouth of the Komo river and on the other side of it, the fishing spots not to be missed in Libreville: the Denis point. A small fishing village where some people have built small houses to spend the weekend. There is a big fishing zone with a lot of potential. You can fish in the river, in the ocean or at the meting point of the river and the ocean. There are many possibilities.
But how to go at the Denis Point ? The easiest way to get there is to go to the Michelle Marine Marina. You will find shuttles there for only $22 and if you want you can sleep and eat in the hotel called Maringa. Once there, you will have the choice to fish wherever you want because there is fish everywhere. From small red snappers to big tarpon. You will just have to adapt your fishing style according to what you are looking for.
Here are the tips I can give you for fishing at the Denis point :
- The best things are to take a light fishing rod (max 30lbs) and a medium light fishing rod (max 60 lbs). The light one will be for catch all types of fish easily and the medium strong one for fishing in ocean and try to catch big Carranx, Barracuda or Tarpon. You can find any types of fish but usually the small fish will be found in the river and the larger ones more towards the ocean. For fly-fishers, this is also a spot where you can fish.
- You will see, at the Denis point, there are a number of pontoons for boats to dock on. These are strategic points and you will always find fish there, even if sometimes it is necessary to insist a little and not to be discouraged.
- The best hours for fishing and the place depend of tides. When the tide is low, fishing at the meeting point between the ocean and the river called "the bar" is more strategic because the fish come out of the esturary and vice versa when the tide rises. For me the best time to fish in the estuary around the pontoons is at sunset because I like to have a lot of fun fishing small to medium size fish. They fight a lot, and in light fishing the power of the fish is much more focused. It's a kind of small challenge.During the sunrise and the sunset, there is a slightly higher level of activity.
To sum up this article, you can find any type of fish at Denis point. You can take a shuttles in Michelle Marine and make a fishing session during one, two or the number of days you want to fish there. You need to bring with you your rods, and favor light and medium strong ones. Fish when the sun goes down around the pontoons and in the river. During the low tide, go to "the bar" and catch bigger fish like carranx or barracuda.
