N°2- Cap Santa Clara

Fishing around Libreville can often seem complicated. Most of the time, many people think that it is necessary to own a boat to be able to exploit the waters off Libreville. However, there are several possibilities. The first one, I detailed it to you through an article on Pointe Denis and its surroundings. The second one, I'm going to tell you about it today and it's about Cap Santa Clara.

Cap Santa Clara is an easily accessible area of Libreville. By car it will take around 40 minutes to get there. On google earth you could explore the areas that could potentially interest you and get there. This location is one of my favorite. You can catch a lot of fish and the best is to track and fight little red snapper on light rods.

Santa Clara have a big potential because there is a lot of rocks and reef on the coast. At high tide you won't really see all the pebbles, but at low tide you will discover pools in the middle of the pebbles with usually a lot of small red carp inside, perfect for the barbecue.

You can explore two famous spot at this location. One is called the lighthouse of Santa Clara and the other one is the crocodile farm ( no worries, there are no crocodile over there ).

Here you will find all types of fish: carranx hipos, tarpon, red snapper, and barracuda. But don't fish with flowing lures because you will fish some rocks.

Joking aside, these spots are made for poper and lure fishing between two waters. This way you will be able to catch all kinds of fish.

I love fishing in this area, you can more or less target what you want to catch. For example, when the tide is low, it is good to fish with small surface lures and small rods in order to track small red carp in the small water holes that hide in the rocks. They will give you really nice and aggressive fights. On small rods it's really great. For 2 hours before the end of the rising tide, you can take out your rods a little bigger for trying to catch bigger fish. Usually they are there.

Another tip I can give you is to take with you 2 rods : a light one and a medium strong one.

Finally, if you chose to go in these fishing spots, you need to bring with you your coolbox with fresh water because when the sun is out it is very hot.

Main informations about fishing in Cap Santa Clara :

- Take 2 rods, light and medium strong

- Start fishing from the low slack water to the high slack water and try to catch little red snapper and big fish

- Take with you old shoes for walking on reefs and rocks

- Favour surface lures like poppers, stick bait or jerkbait
